THE GOLF CLUB

Dartmouth Golf Club was founded in 1910 by Frank Scarf, WH Gunning and a small group of local businesses. This group contemplated that West Bromwich was in need of a new golf course which could exist alongside other established clubs in the area.

The group then went on to lease fifty four acres from a tenant farmer, this land was owned by the Earl of Dartmouth. The Earl became a significant part of the Golf Club, by allowing the Dartmouth name to be used in the club’s title and becoming the first President.

The course is situated north of Sandwell Valley and has a nine hole layout using eighteen different tee positions. The layout of the course was originally undertaken by Mr H Walker, a member of Sandwell Park Golf Club and a founder member of the original West Bromwich Golf Club. Dartmouth Golf Course is still long considered to be amongst the finest nine hole courses in the Midlands.

Until recent times, Dartmouth was a private member’s club but is now in private ownership. This has resulted in considerable investment and allowed much needed improvements to both clubhouse and course. The clubhouse has been refurbished to a high standard with a new Restaurant & Bar, The Lewisham, which includes a large balcony where you can eat, drink and enjoy panoramic views across the course.
